Thieves have a large appetite and equipment yards provide a beautiful buffet table. There are an assortment of items that can be stolen, depending on their values demand and ease of reselling. Large construction equipment with their electronics and GPS systems are prime targets due to their high value which can be sold or dismantled for parts. Vehicles get stolen to become repurposed for illegal activities such as smuggling or transportation of stolen goods and power tools are easy to transport on foot and sold on the black market. We are all familiar with copper being stolen out of A/C units off peoples houses but even more easily copper and piping can be picked off right from an equipment yard without having to dismantle anything and sold for scrap.

Generators, compressors, specialized tools, vehicle parts, fuel, hydraulic fluids, all are candy to thieves who know they can quickly find buyers willing to pay a premium and know that law enforcement will be limited in recovering. One of the primary reasons for implementing security measures is to prevent theft, for all the reasons described above.
